P12 - Quantification of epigenetic bases and oxidative lesions in lung tissues

The Carell group investigates the formation of damaged bases in the genome. Such bases are formed in response to damaging agents such a cigarette smoke or carcinogenic compounds that are present in our environment. The group is using chemical synthesis to prepare these damaged bases and sophisticated mass spectrometry techniques to detect
and quantify DNA lesions in the genome. The group combines chemical synthesis with most modern ultrasensitive analytical techniques.
