Proposal Writing

Gender Diversity Program Workshop

24.11.2020 – 27.11.2020

Tuesday November 24th, 2020 - Friday November 27th, 2020

The “Proposal Writing” course provides a practical approach to design third-party funding applications. The content of the training program includes all aspects of the proposal writing process including idea generation, selection of a suitable funding agency, evaluation and discussion about the structure and essential parts of research proposals as well as practical tips for the "dos and don’s". Using examples and exercises, the participants learn how to develop their project idea and how to adapt it to the goals and mission of the chosen funding program. Through interactive exercises and group work, the participants learn to take the perspective of funding agencies and reviewers and use this experience to optimize their proposal text.

As preparation for the workshop, the participants create a two-page draft for their own project idea ("mini proposal"). These "mini-proposals" will be further developed and optimized during the workshop. All participants receive individual feedback on their mini-proposals with regard to structure, content and language use.

The participants

  • learn to use third-party funding applications as an instrument for their own career development
  • get to know the perspective of funding agencies
  • get to know the review process and understand the perspective of reviewers
  • learn how to convince reviewers of the relevance and importance of their research idea
  • get to know the basic structure of third-party funding proposals
  • understand the relevance of deadlines and formal requirements of funding agencies
